Black Mottle hen
Black Mottle hen
First described in the mid 1800’s, the Mottle is one of the oldest markings known in the Bokhara Trumpeter. A delightful alternating of colored and white feather with varying expression, this classic is found throughout the world.
A closer look at this genetic variation reveals it to be a partial dominant autosome (GT). Simply put this means that the expression of the mottling will change depending if the bird is carrying one gene (heterozygous) or two genes (homozygous). In the homozygous state the amount of white is increased.
The marking is not sex-linked. A mating of a grizzle to a non-grizzle should produce an expected ratio of 50%.
